Eric Tagliacozzo joined the History Department at Cornell in 2000; he teaches on the history of Southeast Asia, and on connections between that region and China to the north (across the South China Sea) and the Middle East (across the Indian Ocean). He did his PhD in Asian History at Yale (1999), and he is a graduate of Haverford College in Pennsylvania, and the Bronx High School of Science in New York City before that.
Eric's main interests include travel (often by boat, across wide open spaces) and soccer, particularly of the Italian flavor. He is a long-time Arsenal supporter, and a life-long Roma fan, though all such passions fade in comparison to allegiance to the Italian national team come tournament time. Eric is interested in how religions, ideas, and commodities cross large global spaces, both historically and today in an ever-shrinking world.
