Zeinab is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering and currently works with bacteria as part of her thesis project. More specifically, her work involves developing a platform to study the outer membranes of bacteria in hopes of uncovering their role in antibiotic resistance. Zeinab graduated with her BS from Carnegie Mellon in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering and worked in industry with Boehringer Ingelheim before joining a post-baccalaureate research program at University of Washington. She hopes to share her experiences in both industry and research with her Becker community.

Zeinab is the first in her family to attend college, and the first in her Somali and Turkish family to leave home. She is passionate about outreach and K-12 education, and loves to give back to her Ithaca community as Outreach chair in Graduate Society of Women Engineers. When she is not killing bacteria, Zeinab loves watching horror movies, reading historical romance novels, and growing plants (unsuccessfully).
