Hi! This is my second year at Becker as a GRF. I'm excited to see everyone who's returning and just as excited to meet new Becker people. I like sailing, herbal tea, painting, cooking, gluten free desserts, and playing video games. I'm a PhD student in Applied Economics and Management and I study environmental economics and non-market valuation of water quality. Non-market valuation of public and quasi-public goods like lakes estimates what price people are willing to pay for clean water. Although pricing clean water feels like it's commodifying a resource we all need to survive, it is actually a tool to help environmental and health policy decisions. Unfortunately we have limited resources to spend on a multitude of different goals maintaining a clean and healthy ecosystem to live in. The value of public goods helps determine where spending will have the greatest impact.
