Gustavo Flores-Macías is Professor of Government in the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Public Policy in the Brooks School of Public Policy at Cornell University. His research and teaching interests include a variety of topics related to political and economic development in Latin America, including the militarization of law enforcement, the attitudes of economic elites, taxation and state capacity, and political parties and democracy. He is the author of Contemporary State Building: Elite Taxation and Public Safety in Latin America (Cambridge University Press 2022) and After Neoliberalism? The Left and Economic Reforms in Latin America (Oxford University Press 2012), and the editor of the volume The Political Economy of Taxation in Latin America (Cambridge University Press 2019). In addition to his research and teaching, he has served as Cornell’s Associate Vice Provost for International Affairs and the Brooks School's Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
